Computer Lab Guidelines & Computer Ethics
- All Food, Smoking and Drink are prohibited.
- Computer use privileges are limited to currently registered students
only; students must have an authorized account to access lab computer
systems. Guest logins are available upon request from the Library Front
Desk.
- Students have access to headphone jacks from the sound card; students
must provide their own stereo headphones.
- Students must supply their own removable drives such as a USB flash
memory drive.
- Please work quietly. Study groups may work together.
- Student lab assistants can provide some computer assistance to students
including logging into the CSI network, starting up software, answering
basic questions about software, printing, saving student data, and logging
off the computer. Students who need additional help may refer questions back
to their appropriate instructor, register for the appropriate computer class
and/or apply for a tutor.
- Use of lab computers is for class related work. Please limit
recreational use of the computers i.e. Internet, chat rooms & e-mail to the
off peak times listed. Before 9:00 am and after 4:00 pm *Class usage always
has priority!*
- Playing computer games, other than ones intended for teaching, are not
allowed.
- Only authorized CSI staff are to install any software.
- Please save your data to a thumb drive or your U drive.
- Computers left unattended for more than 5 minutes may be logged off and
assigned to someone else. For security reasons, please do not leave the
computer logged on when you leave the area. Someone else could then use your
login making you responsible for their actions.
- Please keep your workstation neat and clean.
- Please show respect and consideration to CSI faculty and staff,
including interns and work-study students.
- Ringing cell phones are distracting to other students. Please use silent
or vibrate mode while working in CSI computer classrooms or labs, and talk
quietly or leave the room.
- Students are allotted 500 printing sheets of paper per fall and spring
semester and 250 in the summer. Additional sheets may be purchased at the
One Stop Shop or the Taylor Business Office.
- All software is protected by the U.S. Copyright Laws and/or Patents
and/or Trade Secrets Licenses. The making of unauthorized copies of software
is unlawful!
Computer Ethics
- Do NOT use a computer to harm other people or their work.
- Do NOT use a computer to steal class work or any copies of software for
which you have not paid.
- Do NOT interface with other people's computer work or resources without
authorization.
- Do NOT snoop around in other people's files.
- Do NOT appropriate other people's printer output.
- Do NOT use a computer to bear false witness.
- Do NOT spread computer viruses.
- Do NOT view any material, text, graphics or sound that is considered
abusive, profane, or sexually offensive to the average person.
- Think about the social consequences of the programs you write.
- Use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect.

of Southern Idaho
Please be aware that all usage of any CSI computer may be monitored by
CSI Computer Support Staff.
This Includes e-mail and Internet usage
Failure to abide by the "Computer Lab Guidelines"
and/or the "Computer Ethics" may result in loss of computer privileges on the
CSI campus, or other disciplinary actions including dismissal from CSI.
