Frequently Asked Questions - Students
Q. How big is my email box?
A. Student email accounts have up to 35 MB storage. All mailbox items including sent items and trash are counted in the limit.
Q. How much storage is available on my network U drive?
A. Students are allotted up to 35 MB disk space for their home directory U drive.
Q. Is POP available for Student email?
A. Yes. If you wish to use a mail client such as Outlook Express, set your incoming (POP) and outgoing (SMTP) settings to students.csi.edu. You *may* have to use your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) SMTP mail server, depending on your ISP's security implementation. Contact your ISP for that setting.
Q. If I change my email password, does it change my Blackboard or MyCSI password?
A. No. Email and network passwords are synchronized, but Blackboard and MyCSI passwords are separate.
LOGON ISSUES
Q. I'm having trouble logging in for the first time. What's going on?
A. Students that register for a credit class will receive a student logon account within two business days of registering. Check to see if you have the correct username and password received where you registered - see our logon help page. Make sure that your name and birth date are correct. Often, usernames are different than expected because of marriage, divorce or other personal information changes.
Q. I've been successfully logging in all semester but now I can't. What's going on?
A. Several factors will cause an account to change including:
DOCUMENT STORAGE
Q. How much network storage am I provided?
A. Each student is provided 25 MB of network storage. This is your U drive that appears under My Computer. These files are available to you from off-campus. To access them off-campus, goto http://myfiles.csi.edu.
Q. What is the best way to store my documents?
A. We strongly recommend that you purchase a flash drive for document storage. They are fast, reliable and spacious. Your U drive is provided for convenience but it does not offer the space or speed of flash drives. Many of our lab computers no longer have floppy disk drives, and use of floppy disks are discouraged for reliability reasons.
PRINTING
Q. I need to purchase more pages to print. How do I do this?
A. You may purchase additional paper from any CSI cashier on campus. Cost is $10 for 250 sheets.
Q. I have some paper balance available to me at the end of the semester. Will you roll the balance over to next semester?
A. No. It is a use or lose amount. At the start of each semester, we reset all balances to 500 (Fall/Spring) or 250 (Summer).
