Q:  When will the migration to Eaglemail take place?

Students are expected to activate their new Eaglemail account for Fall Semester 2009.   If you have a current email account on the old http://students.csi.edu system, you can still access that account until Tuesday December 1st, 2009.  All CSI correspondence beginning Fall Semester 2009 will go to Eaglemail.

Q:  What will happen to all the emails currently in my students.csi.edu email account?

A:  Those messages will still be available until Tuesday December 1st, 2009.  We strongly encourage old system users to migrate wanted email from the old system to the new Eaglemail system before then.

Q:  Why is this service offered?

A:  Student email provides the official communication conduit between the College and students. This service was created to provide an e-mail account for any student who wants it, especially those currently without access to e-mail. Our goal is to provide a reliable, practical, secure, feature rich web mail environment with limited banner advertisements. Functionality includes providing faculty and staff lists to communicate with students enrolled in specific classes or programs.

Q:  What is the benefit of this service to instructors and their students?

A:  Eaglemail is powered by Google Apps for Education, providing over 7 GB of email storage.  In addition to email, Google Apps offer word processing, spreadsheet, and a presentation editor.  Google Docs offers 7 GB of document storage available online.

Q:  How do I get an Eaglemail account?

A: All current CSI students enrolled in a credited class receive an Eaglemail account.  For further information on our student account activation policy click here.  All Faculty are eligible for their own Eaglemail account.

Q:  How do I access Eaglemail?

A:  http://eaglemail.csi.edu.  You will  also be able to access Eaglemail through the MyCSI portal.

Q:  What is my student user name for Eaglemail e-mail?  Is that the same as my email address?

A:  Your student username and email address will be different from the old system.  Your username will be your student ID number, which you use to access the system.  The default password will be your date of birth without dashes or spaces, with a four digit year.  Students get to choose their email address from a pick list of name combinations.

Faculty will sign in with their normal network username and password, not their ID number.

Q:  How do I select an email account password? Can I use any password I want? What if I forget my password?

A:  Your initial student password is your eight digit date of birth.  You will be asked to change that password upon initial logon.  Your new password can be any combination of letters and numbers you like, but must be at least (8) characters in length.  You can change your password at anytime by visiting http://pwm.csi.edu/.

Q:  What features are available in the Eaglemail student email system?

A:  Web based access to email allows for easy access from any computer with internet access and a web browser. Integrated email features such as spell check, folder functionality and rule management, configurable email filters, incoming and outgoing virus scan, anti-spam mechanism, and faculty and staff address books.  A full 7 Gigabits of storage allows you to store more messages and documents.

Q:  How do I use Eaglemail?

A:  Google has provided a demo of the Gmail system with clear instructions and explanations of all the included features. This demo may be accessed at http://www.google.com/mail/help/tour/start.html

Q:  How long can I use Eaglemail? Will I lose all my email at the end of every semester?

A:  Your Eaglemail account will stay active for one full year past your last credited class completion.  Thus, you will NOT lose any email during that period of time.

Q:  Can I use Outlook Express or Thunderbird to collect my Eaglemail messages? Is POP mail or IMAP access supported?

A:  Yes, POP and IMAP protocols are supported.  These settings can be found here.

Q:  How do I know if I get an e-mail attachment with a virus?

A:  Virus scanning and Spam filtering are built into the Eaglemail system. That said, new virus outbreaks occur regularly and caution is always advised opening attachments.
